AVEX (real name Avalon Tsegaye) was born in Italy, before moving as a young child to his father’s native country, Ethiopia. He spent the first 20 years of his life in Addis Ababa where he attended an Italian school, thus successfully mastering Amharic, the language of his roots, Italian and English. He returned to Italy at the age of 20, moving to Bologna where he spent the next 3 years making a name for himself among the most talented rappers on the local scene. He made a seamless transition from freestyle street rapper to performer at the Montreux Jazz Festival. With his ability to rap in three different languages and his extraordinary stage presence, Avex represents a link between the hip hop of the past and its current (and future) evolutions.
